What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch hands-on therapy that enhances the body’s natural capacity for healing.  The treatment essentially encourages the body to release restrictions deep in the body that is has been unable to overcome on its own, relieving pain and dysfunction and improving whole-body health and performance.

There are few structures that have as much influence over the body’s ability to function properly as the central nervous system (the brain and the spinal cord). And the central nervous system is highly influenced by the CranioSacral system (the membranes and fluid that surround, nourish, and protect the brain and spinal cord, as well as the bones of the head, spine, face/mouth, and connective tissues/fascia).

How Does CST Work?

Each and every day your body sustains and withstands stresses and strains that it must compensate for. These changes often cause body tissues to tighten and interfere with the CranioSacral system and form tensions around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions.

During a session the client remains fully clothed and lays comfortably on his/her back on the treatment table. The practitioner uses a very gentle touch technique and follows the body’s response in releasing the restrictions in the fascial tissues.  These soft tissue layers are continuous throughout the whole body and surround every organ, muscle, and bone down to individual cells. The gentle release of these chronic tensions within the body can result in major changes in both physical and emotional well-being.

By normalizing the environment around the central nervous system and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, CranioSacral Therapy treatments can alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions.
